About

Our Story & Vision

Reggae Month Canada is a new national cultural initiative founded by Farex Entertainment, SPEXDABOSS, Fidelis Business Management, and MVB Consulting, in collaboration with key community, government, tourism, and industry partners, to celebrate the enduring legacy and global influence of reggae music and culture in Canada.

Inspired by Jamaica's internationally recognized Reggae Month celebrations, the initiative has been developed with the approval and support of Jamaica's Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia “Babsy” Grange. Reggae Month Canada aims to strengthen the cultural and creative relationship between Canada and Jamaica while recognizing Canada's own rich reggae history and the artists, musicians, DJs, broadcasters, educators, promoters, and community leaders who have helped shape the genre across generations.

Why Canada

Home to vibrant Jamaican, Caribbean, and Black communities whose artists continue to shape reggae's presence, and one of the world's great cities for music.

Why August

August 2026 was proclaimed “Reggae Month” in the City of Toronto by Mayor Olivia Chow, echoing Jamaica's own February Reggae Month celebrations.

Why Reggae Matters

Reggae carries messages of justice, unity, love, resistance and hope — recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

2026: The Soft Launch

The 2026 Harbourfront Centre event serves as the official public launch and soft launch of Reggae Month Canada. Rather than presenting a full-scale festival in its inaugural year, the August 1 event is designed to introduce the vision, celebrate the official announcement, build public awareness, establish strategic partnerships, and lay the foundation for an expanded, city-wide celebration beginning in 2027.

2027 and Beyond: Full National Programming

Beginning in 2027, Reggae Month Canada will evolve into a multi-week cultural celebration featuring live concerts and performances, educational programming, a Reggae Industry Conference, youth mentorship initiatives, artist showcases, panel discussions, workshops, film screenings, museum and library programming, networking events, cultural exhibitions, business development opportunities, and community celebrations across the Greater Toronto Area and beyond.

Education will be a cornerstone of the initiative — exploring the origins of reggae music, its influence on social justice movements, its global cultural impact, and its recognition by UNESCO. The annual Reggae Industry Conference will bring together artists, managers, producers, promoters, broadcasters, record labels, festival organizers, tourism representatives, government agencies, and educators to explore artist development, media, publishing, streaming, branding, AI, entrepreneurship, and international touring.

More than a music celebration, Reggae Month Canada is a long-term cultural movement designed to honour reggae's past, celebrate its present, and invest in its future — establishing Canada as a leading international destination for reggae programming while building meaningful cultural bridges between Canada and Jamaica.
